HALL OF FAME & HONORS

AN OHIO CONSERVATION LEGACY

A Lifetime of Work, Recognized.

In 2026, H. Thomas “Tom” Bartlett was inducted into the Ohio Natural Resources Hall of Fame, one of the state’s highest honors for individuals whose work has made a lasting contribution to conservation and Ohio’s natural heritage.

The recognition reflects more than 50 years of bird banding, scientific research, habitat conservation, education, volunteerism and service to organizations working to understand and protect the natural world. Contemporary coverage of the induction also notes the continuing partnership in the field: during spring migration, Tom and Paula still wake early and band birds almost daily.

Tom’s research through bird banding has contributed to scientific understanding of bird populations, migration patterns and ecosystem health. His conservation work has helped inform the protection of important natural areas. His teaching and mentorship have introduced generations of students, birders and citizen scientists to the value of careful observation and good field science.

And he is still doing the work. Often, Paula is right there doing it with him.
